DUST on and off ball fields, paths and trails, parking areas, shooting ranges, dirt tracks, anywhere in the park or recreation area can be a serious nuisance, even a health issue to be addressed.  It can be a risk to participants and spectators with health related breathing problems like asthma. Airborne fugitive dust wherever it occurs can be miserable for others trying to enjoy the area.  As the person responsible for managing the park or recreation area you only have a few viable options to control and suppress fugitive dust.  There is the null hypothesis (do nothing) and the alternative hypothesis (do something). The null hypothesis is not the status quo because with dust it does NOT stay the same, it get WORSE over time.  Most managers consider worse a bad option.  There are only a few options for the alternative, do something, hypothesis.  These range from daily watering to concrete and asphalt.  Fortunately, between those two side-boards there are a a few options.  The first decision is (1) can the earth/soil/dust be hardened for a fraction of the cost of concrete or asphalt (such as certain ADA compliant paths by using Natural Pave) or (2) does the earth/soil/dust need to remain pliable and reworkable (such as more primitive areas.  For the reworkable areas like ball fields, tracks, shooting ranges, certain paths and trails etc. there is water,  various salts, and there is Diamond Doctor® /Diamond Dr®.   Water is either abundant or scarce, inexpensive or metered.  Regardless,  routinely watering an area consumes manpower and time.  If water is scarce and simply too precious to watch evaporate that leaves options like (1) salts like MgCl2 with its drawbacks, (2) oils made from crude or GTL with their drawbacks, or (3) Diamond Doctor® with its benefits.  For organized high use ball parks and similar areas, two applications  per season is a reasonable alternative.
